Encore was originally supposed to air on May 27, 2000, and that was changed to June 24, 2000. That date seemed pretty final until they aired "Second Generation" instead of it. So, on August 12, 2000, Encore finally aired.

Episode Synopsis:

Molly decides to end the tour, reflecting on all of the weird things that have happened while on the road.

Episode Summary:

In the teaser, Molly begins by talking about how she loves performing, how it is another way to express her feelings, and that she saw Rick for the first time on stage. Then she says that she's been on her comeback tour for almost 2 years now, and that everything is beginning to seem unreal, and it shows some clips from previous "So Weird" episodes.

At the Stanley Theater, Molly, Carey, and Phoenix are walking down a hall and Carey's talking about holding the show over, but Molly says "when it's over, it's over!" They reach backstage and then Molly goes over to talk to Fi. Ned and Irene agree that there is something wrong with Molly, but Ned says a stupid remark, and Irene walks away.

Fi argues that she is so close to finding out "the truth", but Molly argues that she doesn't think it is healthy for all of them. The announcer announces for Molly, and she walks on stage and sings "More Like a River".

There's a motel in Texas

hot bed under wide blue sky

had a dream there

The morning came too soon

I rolled over

and I said it out loud

said give me one more moment

just one more moment to finish this dream

I wanna be

More Like a River

less like a wall

not try to hold back these feelings at all

cause when I miss you

When I'm dyin to kiss you

I gotta let that flow

More Like a River

There's a house in the mountains

filled with of bits of me and you

I had a dream there

but morning came too soon

I've been holding on

it's been holding me back

I don't want to give in

but I know what you'd say to me

finish this dream

Can I be

More Like a River

less like a wall

not try to hold back these feelings at all

cause when I miss you

When I'm dyin to kiss you

I gotta let that flow

More Like a River

Cause in the morning

There are kids and dogs and bills

and sunlight

and a new day

and a new day

and another new day

without you

Molly finishes that song and the audience claps loud. Backstage, Fi and Jack are arguing that Fi bugs Molly even before she goes on stage and just because dad did it doesn't mean mom will believe it. Fi yells back that she will always believe and runs off. Molly then starts "In the Darkness".

Demons come from every side

in the darkness is the light

pulling me on a downward slide

in the darkness is the light

getting hot the deeper I go

in the darkness is the light

into the darkness down below

in the darkness is the light

I live my life in one straight line

the future ahead and the past behind

don't wanna go back to yesterday

but i don't know how long

i can run this way

yeah!

a jungle hung with tangled vines

in the darkness is the light

i'm tangled up in my own lines

in the darkness is the light

a creature there in darkness lies

in the darkness is the light

why is it that it has my eye

in the darkness is the light

I've lived my life in one straight line

the future ahead and the past behind

now I've hit a wall like I never knew

and they tell me the only way out is through

the air!

they say the truth will set me free-yeah

in the darkness is the light

free to be down there on my knees-yeah

in the darkness is the light

but just when I thought I'd lost my sight

in the darkness is the light

I catch a glimpse of that beautiful light

in the darkness is the light

in the darkness is the light

surrender will win the fight

this girls walked through fire and ice

but i come out of the other side of paradise

oh yeah paradise

yeah yeah

my paradise!

is here with you

is here with you baby

paradise!

paradise!

oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah!

paradise!

That song ends and Molly says that this audience was great and that was special to her because this is the last performance of the tour.

Everyone is dealing with the surprise announcement of Molly's ending the tour, with Fi and Jack fighting that Fi was so close to finding out about Rick, and Irene arguing with the record company because they need to know about something like this first. Ned is talking with some roadies about going back on the KISS tour, but Fi and Jack break in, walking past them. Jack is yelling that Molly would never let Fi go across the country by herself, but Fi argues that Ned rode across the country when he was 16, so why can't she? Ned and Jack are stumped. Molly begins "She Sells":

Deedle deedle deetle

Leet doo doo

Till

Deedle deedle deetle

Leet doo

Till

Deedle deedle deetle

Leet doo

Doo down

Hear that song on the radio

The one stuck in your head

It’s designed to seize your mind

You’ll sing it till you’re dead

It isn’t by your favorite band

It’s by a girl you’ll never know

But the next time you go shopping

She will tell you where to go, ‘cause

She sells!

She sells condos by the seashore

She sells!

She sells machines to wax the kitchen floor

She sells!

She sells to get a slice of that big pie

But in the end she sells her soul

Because she knows that’s what they want to buy

Doot doot doot til

Doot doot til

Doot doot doot down

Then she finds herself forgettin’

Why she started in the first place

Afternoons at the piano

Up on daddy’s knee

First a G, yeah, now an E

That’s the way, baby

Now it’s contracts

And royalties

And thirty second spots

Don’t make ‘em cry

Just make ‘em buy

And make ‘em buy a lot!

She sells!

She sells condos by the seashore

She sells!

She sells ointment for that open sore

She sells!

She sells to get a slice of that big pie

But she don’t wanna sell herself

And so it’s time to say goodbye!

Mint-flavored air pollution

Advanced internet solutions

She sells

She sells

She sells

She sells

goodbye!

goodbye!

Molly ends that song, and yells to the crowd saying that they were the last and best audience. The band runs off stage, and they turn on Molly, yelling and asking why she quit without telling them. Irene comes in and says that the record company agreed to let them make a CD, and they're all happy them. Jack then asks Molly why she quit, and she answers that she wants them to have a normal life. Ned then asks Jack if he could be a substitute teacher at his high school, and Jack answers "yes!" a little too enthusiastically.

Molly then goes over to Fi and Fi cries to Molly that she knew she made her and Jack mad sometimes, but she was so close to finding out about Rick. Then Carey comes over and says the audience wants more, and Molly nods her head and tells Fi, "This is for you...and your dad", and kisses her on the forehead, and goes back on stage. Molly introduces "Another World" and sings it:

She lives in one small room

over the convenience store

she had big plans once

she doesn't have them anymore

got little diamonds in her ears

but she's got coal in her eyes

its been night so long now

she doesn't think the sun will rise

and she asks

is this all there is

won't this ever end

there must be a better place

lookin for another world

i'm not sure we should

i'm not sure salvation lies there

There is bad as well as good

let us love each other now

as if this world is all there is

And those who believe

in the dreams he held so dear

he swam against the tide

but he was drowning in his fear

out on the lost horizon

the gold ship sinking down in size

its been night so long now

he doesn't think the sun will rise

and he said

this can't be all there is

there must be something more

there must be a better place

looking for another world

i'm not sure we should

i'm not sure salvation lies there

there is bad as well as good

let us love each other now

as if this time is all there is

lying here beside you

i wonder what will become of us

of you and me

oh, all of us

so many dangers

ohhhhhh so much I've faced

I'm scared of what I cannot see

my love might end someday

I'll help you if I can

I believe I've got to try

we all have a part to play

I am playing mine

I don't know about another world

what beyond this curtains lies

I know it's been night a long time

but one day the sun will rise

Yes one day the sun will rise

During the song, when she sings:

"lying here beside you

i wonder what will become of us

of you and me

oh, all of us

so many dangers

ohhhhhh so much I've faced

I'm scared of what I cannot see

my love might end someday"

She can hear, and if she opened her eyes, see, Rick singing with her. But when she does open them, after the last line there, he is gone.

"I'll help you if I can

I believe I've got to try

we all have a part to play

I am playing mine

I don't know about another world

what beyond this curtains lies

I know it's been night a long time

but one day the sun will rise

Yes one day the sun will rise!"

She finishes the song and calls Fi and Jack out, and hugs them. During that, she sees Rick walking up the aisle, but no one else can see him. He turns and they both smile at each other. Then, he disappears, and Molly continues to hug Fi and Jack.
