Molly’s original band, the Phillips-Kane Band, or PKB, was established in 1978. The broke up in 1988, when Rick died in the car accident. This was the band that made “Molly” famous the first time, not to mention her solo career beforehand. Actually, Molly, Rick, and John Kane, who we’ve seen twice in the series, had prominent solo careers before they all joined up.
Molly and Rick would have met at a stadium, when she saw him performing on stage at a concert. It would have been ‘love at first sight.’ Then somewhere along the lines, they would have found John, and they became the Phillips-Kane Band. They inherited the head roadie from Rick, who was Ned. They were going to choose Evelyn, from “Siren,” for their manager, but something made them change their minds, and they chose Irene instead.
They began the band almost directly after Molly and Rick were married. Ned and Irene met. They were married about a year later, on June 30, 1979. What were their albums?

(Backstory: named by Rick based on his discovery of the spirit world; the
last album by the band before his death.
Contained songs that hinted at the troubles in their marriage as a
result of Rick’s obsession with the paranormal and his search for “the truth”.)
“Rockerbaby” (CD & cassette - 1986)
Cover art concept: Fi as a baby with sunglasses and an electric
guitar (Seen in “Rebecca”)
(Backstory: celebrates the birth of Fi; Rockerbaby is Rick and Molly’s
nickname for Fi, which she’ll later adopt as her screen name for online)
“Overview” (CD & cassette - 1985)
Cover art concept: sharp down-angle view of a city of
skyscrapers (drawing with forced perspective - not yet seen or fully cleared)
(Backstory: named by John Kane, who is well over six feet, and has developed
a world view based on looking down at people and their lives. Foreshadows the end of “Twin” on the roof.)
“Double Edge” (Double live album - LP & cassette
- 1984)
Cover art concept: a sword surrounded by Celtic art and imagery
(similar to the strangeling book cover -- not yet seen or fully cleared)
(Backstory: named by Molly, based on something of a renewed appreciation of
her Celtic/Irish ancestry; this is the year Jack was born, thus her decision to
continue naming her children in the Irish tradition. Another sign of Molly’s extra-sensory awareness, in that she
sensed Jack’s former life as an Arthurian knight.)
“Unbreakable Heart” (LP & cassette - 1983)
Cover art concept: rounded 3D heart made of cast-iron, with
rivets and a padlock (drawing -- not yet seen or fully cleared)
(Backstory: An ironic commentary on both Rick’s steadfast emotional core and
Molly’s attempt to padlock her emotions for her own protection; a glimpse into
the dynamics of their marriage)
“Half-light” (LP & cassette - 1982)
Cover art concept: A close-up of Molly’s (Mackenzie’s) face,
left half in shadow, right half in light, looking directly into the camera
(Album cover seen in “Rebecca”)
(Backstory: named by Molly as part of her continuing use of light/dark images
in her lyrics; for her, this was a positive statement that she was emerging
into the light as a result of feeling more and more secure in her marriage)
“Destiny” (LP & cassette - 1981)
Cover art concept: a hand pulling the hand of an unseen someone
out of a maelstrom or vortex (not yet seen)
(Backstory: will be another unwitting premonition on
Molly’s part of future events, i.e., Fi pulling her father back into this world
from the afterlife in the final episode)
