3.6 – Batting Cage

*Easter Egg Alert! (http://www.eeggs.com) In the
e-mail Fi gets at the end, it is from "Cara." Yeah, that's in reference to Cara DeLizia,
the actress who plays Fi. And the quote
in the e-mail was said by Rick, and will be repeated in an upcoming episode in
a flashback with Rick. And why is that
quote there, at the end of the e-mail, anyway?
It's a digital signature...you set up your e-mail to add that to every
e-mail you send. You can have smiley
faces, quotes, really almost anything!*
Teaser:
<two scientists examining a model of the
human brain>
Fi: Déjà vu.
Re-living past experiences. The
link to reincarnation? Whatever you
call it, it's the word used to explain when you do something,
<a man picking up a magazine of off a rack,
and a ghosted image of him doing the same thing on the right of him>
But you've feel like you've done it before. These "flashes" are unknown. Are they just snapshots of what you're
seeing your brain takes?
<FLASH!
Someone walking around the hall in Jack's castle, taking pictures>
Or are they scenes from a past life? Usually, you can't see the surroundings in
the "vision," so you don't know if the setting is the same.
<FLASH!
Fi and Clu in the time warp in "Singularity">
So how do you know how it works then?
"Here
we are!" Ned says, pulling the bus into a tight parking lot. "It's gonna be nice to have a gig not
in a club," Irene says. "Get
bored of clubs, Irene?" Molly jokes.
"Yeah...after 20 years!..." Irene says, and Molly laughs. The gang walks off the bus into the parking
lot, and see that it is a parking lot for an amusement park! "Woah!
Score Mrs. P!" Clu says.
"Like it, guys?" Molly asks.
"Yeah!" Jack says.
"It was murder keeping it secret from you guys!" Ned
says. "For some of us
anyway," Irene says quietly to Molly, secretly pointing at Ned. "Hey!" he says. Irene gets out of her fanny pack money and
pays for everyone, and they all walk in.
"This is gonna be fun!" Ned says. "And small!" Fi says.
"Hey, can we tag alone?" Carey asks. "Uh...sure, Carey!
But be sure to be back in 2 hours, Molly starts then, OK?" Irene
says. "Sure!" Carey says, and
he, Clu, Jack, and Fi run off.
"Well, let's go get setup!" Molly says, and the 3 adults walk
over to a huge stage.
The
four are in line for a ride. "I love
amusement parks," Clu says.
"Really Clu?" Fi says.
"Yeah! Once I
remember...uh, that we went to one, and...uh, never mind," he says. Everyone laughs, then a park employee says,
"Next!" "Let's go!"
Jack says, and they run into the ride, the "Whoa Belly!" The ride takes them to the top of a tall
tower, waits a few seconds, then drops back down at a fast speed. "This is gonna be so cool!" Clu
says, sitting next to Jack. They reach
the top. "Here we
goooooooooooooooooo...!" Jack screams, as they fall. Faster, faster! FOOMPH! It stops and
slowly glides to the bottom, where everyone gets off. "I'm...suddenly...not...very...hungry," Fi says,
walking out the exit. "Me
neither," Carey says. "Let's
go on a gentle ride, alright?" Jack asks.
"OK," they say, and get in line for the merry-go-round.
"Testing,
1-2, testing, 1-2," Molly says into the microphone. "How's this Moll?" Judy asks,
walking over to Molly with a piece of sheet music. Everyone is busy setting up or getting it to work. Suddenly, a rollercoaster zooms
overhead. Everyone looks up and see
that the stage is right under a rollercoaster loop. "Hey...check out out," everyone is saying.
"That
was dumb...who's idea was that?" Carey says, getting off the
merry-go-round. Everyone looks at Jack.
"Come on, guys, it wasn't that bad!" he says. "Yeah, I guess your right," Clu
says, "Hey, look over there!"
Clu points to across the pathway to a series of batting cages. "Cool, let's go," Jack says, and
they all run over, except Fi. She
shrugs, and also runs over. While
running, someone brushes against a sign on two of the cages, making it fall
off. As it falls, we see it says
"<-- Out of Order. Please Do Not Use. -->" It lands face down. "Wait a minute guys. Fi...is this OK?" Jack asks. "Yeah, you guys go ahead," Fi
smiles. "Thanks Fi!" Carey
says, as the 3 guys runs over to get gear and bats. They come back, and see Fi sitting on the bench. Carey sees her and says, "You know what
guys? I'll stay out here with
Fi." "Carey, you really don't
have to," Fi says. "No, I will.
Let me go take my gear off," he says and runs back. Jack and Clu just shrug. Jack gets into the one cage where the sign
fell off, Clu gets in the other. The
first ball comes. They both hit it
far. "Yeah, go guys!" Fi
cheers. The second ball comes for
Jack. He swings, and misses, and
disappears in a blue swirl.
"Jack!" Fi screams, as Clu looks over, and not seeing the next
ball coming. He jumps back to miss it,
and also disappears in a blue swirl.
"Clu!" Fi yells. Then,
Carey walks back over. "Hey,
where'd they go?" Carey asks. Fi
just stares at him.
In
the blue time warp from "Singularity," Jack appears. "Woah!" he says, looking all
aorund at the people and baseballs. He
walks around, trying to figure out where he is.
Sitting
on the bench, Fi is telling Carey what happened. "Wait...so they disappeared when they missed the
ball?" "Yeah!" Fi says. "Wait...h...how?" Carey asks. "I don't know," Fi says, staring
at the cages.
Jack
spins around to see Clu appearing in a blue swirl too. Clu looks around, and realizes where he
is. "No way..." he says. "Clu, where are we?" Jack
asks. "We...we...we're in a time
warp," he says. "How do you
know?" Jack asks. "Me...and
Fi...were in here before," Clu says, looking around. They both look around, confused. "Well, what is all of this...and why
won't it..." Jack begins, and goes to touch a baseball. "Jack, no!" Clu yells. Jack touches it, as Clu touches him,
freezing both of them. Then the warp
begins to meltdown again.
"Oh
no...it's been almost two hours!" Carey says. "Well, you better get back," Fi says. "Are you sure?" Carey asks. "Yeah, I'll be fine," Fi
says. "OK then," Carey says,
walking off, but keeps looking back. Fi
sees that Jack's and Clu's balls are still coming. She takes a stone from the ground and throws it into one as the
ball comes. It hits the ball, and falls
to the ground. She throws another
stone in, and it misses the ball. It
disappears in a blue swirl. She opens
the door and grabs one of those balls, and gets out before the next one
comes. She hits it, throws it, drops
it...nothing happens. She waits until
the balls stop coming and walks into the cage.
She walks around, and finds nothing out-of-the-ordinary. She brings the ball in and throws it, hits
it, and drops it...and disappears.
"Carey,
where's everyone else?" Molly asks, while Carey straps on his guitar. "Uh...they'll be coming. They got in a little mess," he says. "OK," Molly says, "You
ready?" "Yeah," the band
replies. "All right," she
says and turns to the crowd, "Hey everybody!" The crowd cheers. "How you doing today?"
"GREAT!" they yell.
"Well, we got a great show lined up for you today, so here we go,
the Molly Phillips band!" Molly yells into the mic, and everyone
screams. The band starts playing
"New Life."(From the PKB album "Double Edge")
<Molly singing>
I saw you coming at night
It didn't help you had might
You sold me to be true
It turned blue
<Fi appearing in time warp>
And then I saw your true face
And I saw that it wasn't a race
Couldn't of it been a nice
Life?
<Fi looking around>
You tried to use a guide
Either way you would slide
You wrote me like a bug
But it was snug
<going to touch Jack, but stops>
Yeah then I read a big book
And then I gave you a look
Couldn't of it been a nice
Life?
<Fi hears something falling a looks up>
Giving birth to new life
It helps when you strive
Pulling you through
<she sees a baseball bat falling to the
ground>
Wasn't really what I
Wanted to do
<Fi grabs it before it hits the ground>
You seemed to be in a warp
Making noises like "orp"
You said that you loved me
But I still didn't see
<she goes to hit one ball, and misses, and
shakes her head>
I looked and looked at a poster
It didn't give me a booster
Couldn't of it been a nice
Life?
<she swings again, and hits one>
Giving birth to new life
It helps when you strive
Pulling you through
Wasn't really what I
Wanted to do
<she hits a second ball>
Screamin'
Yellin'
Eatin' melon
Can't you see
What we are selling...
(Molly is still singing in the background) Fi
goes to hit a third ball, but in front of her, a huge ball of something
forms. She backs up, and sees that it
is a huge head of Rick.
"Daddy?" Fi asks.
"Yes, baby, don't hit the ball!" the head says. "Why?" Fi asks. "Remember that you destroyed this time
warp! It you go to destroy it again,
and there's nothing there to destroy, it will be come a black hole, turning you
and everyone and everything in here into nothing," it says. "Then how do I get out?" Fi
asks. "That's up to you," the
head says and disappears.
"No...that wasn't daddy," Fi mumbles. She picks up the bat, and wonders where it
DID come from. She pulls back, but
stops. "What if it WAS daddy? No..." she says, and hits the last
ball.
FLASH! Fi, Jack, and Clu are standing in the
audience, beside Ned and Irene. They
turn and smile at them. They smile
back.
...And then I saw your fake face
And realized it was a race
Couldn't of it been a nice
Life?
New life, new life
New life, new life
New life, new life
Giving new life really wasn't what I
Wanted to do
"So
you don't remember anything?" Fi asks on the bus, that night. "No, just being at mom's gig,"
Jack says. "Clu?" Fi asks. "Same, Fi," he says. "Why am I the only one?" Fi
mumbles. "Only one what Fi?"
Jack asks. "Oh, nothing," Fi
says, "Good night." "Night," Jack says. "See ya," Clu says, both walking
out her of room. She turns to her
laptop and types in her daily journal.
The
next morning, Fi is online her on laptop in the community room. "Hey Fi," Carey says, walking
in. "Hey Carey," Fi says,
looking up from her computer.
"So...what happened yesterday?" he asks. "I don't know...but it had something to
do with missing the ball," Fi says.
"So, what? You think the
cage didn't like...bad atheletes or something?" Carey laughs. Fi laughs too, "I don't
know." "Oh well, gotta
go," Carey says, and walks out.
"You have new e-mail."
Fi opens it and reads it, as Molly walks in. "Hey baby," she says.
"Hey mom," Fi says, closing the lid. "So...how you doing?" Molly asks, sitting down next to
Fi. "What do you mean?" Fi
asks. "Oh, you know, the
tour...being on the road," Molly suggests. "Oh, I see.
Yeah...everything's fine," Fi says with a smile. "Like...I sense something happened at
that park...but...it turned out OK?" Molly asks. "Yeah," Fi says, still smiling. "OK," Molly says and stands up. She walks to the hallway, but turns around
to look at Fi one more time. She smiles
and shakes her head, and walks out.
Once she does that, Fi opens the laptop again, and we can see the
e-mail.

Dear Fi, Read your post on the cages. Sorry, don't have any advice, but I just
thought you'd like to know that if everything seems OK, it usually
is. Cara |
